Jesus, I stand for you
a Psalm inspired by Matthew 10:32-33 (NIV) “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven”
Jesus I stand for you
I conform my every action to you
Holy Spirit draw me nearer to the glory
of one man’s character that endures forever
Jesus I stand for you
I will acknowledge you with words and actions
in every moment of everyday
when I sin or miss the mark I will
repent, turn away and go to you to restore my heart
so you are my guide to give me a new aim
Thank you for being a God who always
adjusts, aligns and acts on our hearts
This is why Jesus, I will always stand for you
stand with your character
stand with your righteousness
stand with your joy
I will stand with your words as you once said
“Do not worry about what to say or how to say it.
At that time you will be given what to say, for it will be
not you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking
through you.”
Jesus I am always available to you
I confess the times I give you just enough or just
a little when you the good shepherd gave us everything you had
You never abandon us when the wolf comes because you
are a man who laid down His life for us your sheep
Jesus I stand with you
Don’t ever let me sit down when your name is challenged
Don’t ever let me sit down when your name is attacked
because an attack on you is an attack on me
as you live in me
but of course I don’t use weapons of the world
just the weapons you left behind in us
to share the good news and grow the body
with grace, love, mercy, faith and forgiveness
And know this Lord while I have your peace living in me…My
heart is also not at peace until I am obedient in how I acknowledge
you before others…until this world knows no other but
you as our King
because of the joy, love and peace you bring
it is your power
your courage and you strength
that has me rising up to say
Jesus I stand for you
I stand for you
Because just at the right time when the world
was sitting with so much shame, fear & hurt
you arrived and said I am here
I stand for you on behalf of our Heavenly Father
You looked at those who were oppressed
and said I stand for you
You looked those who were blind & lame
and said I stand for you
You looked at those who were sick, lost or broken
and said I stand for you
because Jesus only through you can justice be brought to all nations
as Isaiah once prophesied
“a bruise reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out,
until he has brought justice through to victory
In his name the nations will put their hope.”
So Jesus our only response is to put our hope in you
to never sit when you give us the strength to stand for
and with your Heavenly name
Because it is your life
that once gave me a lost soul
a reason to stand
Because at my lowest moments
when I could no longer withstand
you arrived to heal my heart,
filling me with your love and Holy Spirit
saying rise up son
I didn’t make you to sit
I made you to stand
